Discover Shaw Real Estate

The homes for sale in the heart of Shaw, and in nearby Mount Vernon Square and Logan Circle, are an eclectic mix of historic charm and cutting-edge development. You'll find many Victorian townhouses that date back over 100 years, with interiors that have been renovated to have a modern style and contemporary appliances. With three stories, three or more bedrooms, and open floor plans with 1,500 square feet or more, these homes typically go for $1 million or more. Depending on the home, you'll find finished basements, enclosed patios, and comfortable back yards as well.

While Victorian townhouses are the Shaw classic, more recent developments have led to the creation of a number of contemporary low-rise and high-rise condo buildings in Shaw. At the high end of the Shaw real estate market, you'll find one- and two-bedroom condos with open 1,000-square-foot floor plans, and at the lower end you'll find spacious studio lofts for as low as $300,000.

While many of Shaw's condos are in new buildings, with contemporary or even art deco architecture, some of the neighborhood's garden-style condos are in older buildings that have been renovated, giving them classic Victorian exteriors and brick-based contemporary interiors. This mixture of old and new is precisely what draws so many students, young professionals, and families to make their home in Shaw.

Shaw Community and Culture

Shaw is once again a thriving community, thanks to a major influx of new stores and restaurants over the last decade. Residents love to frequent Compass Coffee on 7th Street and Dacha Beer Garden only a block away, and Chinatown is right on the other side of Mount Vernon Square. Shaw is also the Eastern starting point for the U Street Corridor, a nine-block stretch of restaurants, galleries, nightclubs, and shops. For groceries, residents have Giant Food right in the heart of the neighborhood.

Washington's rich history is on display in and around Shaw, with the historic Logan Circle right to the west, Carnegie Library in Mount Vernon Square to the south, and the Lincoln Theatre to the north. Shaw has great access to the rest of the city through its two metro stations, and Capitol Hill and the Smithsonian are only a short trip away.
