Good news for First Time Homebuyers in The District of Columbia.... Starting October 1, 2017 there is an amendment to the DC Deed Recordation Tax Act.  In typical real estate transactions, the buyer pays a 1.1% Deed Recordation Tax (for properties under $400,000) or 1.45% (for properties over $400,000).  The newly legislated amendment will reduce the Recordation Tax for qualifying individuals to 0.725%.

Unlike prior First-Time Homebuyer Credits in the District, there are qualifying requirements in place. Generally, the following must be met:

1. Must be a first-time buyer of an eligible residential property. Includes buyers who have never owned a principal residence in The District of Columbia.
